A Green Conversion – Electronic Medical Record Arrives!
In our awareness of how important it is to give back to our environment for the future of our Earth, Dr. Richardson recently decided that the long history of paper waste in medical offices should stop. On May 1, 2008, Natura Dermatology & Cosmetics will implement the use of Practice Studio to convert the office to a paperless environment reducing paper use in the office by over 95%.
“A paperless office will soon be the standard in the healthcare field and I felt it was time for my office to begin that conversion. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, I anticipate will require all physicians to utilize an electronic medical record within the next 10 years”, Dr. Richardson said. Paperless means that most if not all of the paperwork that you complete on your first visit and follow up visits will be done on touch screen computer systems From initial history and physical questionnaires, consent for treatment, compliance documents, and of course, check out and check in, will all be done with the touch of button.
“In keeping with our theme of offering patients the most advanced up to date therapy and technology, it was the only next right thing to do for our patients” Dr. Richardson notes. He hopes to increase the productivity in the office by reducing the average 8 to 10 minute time wait it took to complete initial paperwork. “Though initially it will take us a lot more time to get use to the new system, we have allowed ourselves thirty minutes to an hour per new patient visit the week of implementation” Dr. Richardson stated.
“The initial weeks I anticipate will be the hardest, however, as with any computer systems I suspect we will have more than one bumpy day throughout the lifetime of the software” noted Dr. Richardson when asked regarding the efficiency of the system. “In the room is where a big change will be observed by patients. I will be using a touchscreen monitor to pinpoint where lesions, rashes, and other concerns are directly onto a body map that is presented on the screen. This will improve the accuracy of our lesion map system which we currently use to document cancers and moles.”
The conversion begins on April 21, 2008. Stop in to see the new exciting changes as they occur!
