Botox vs Dysport: Which Works Better?

You can stop waiting for a miracle if you’ve been wishing to turn back the hands of time — at least where your skin is concerned.

Advancements in facial cosmetic treatments have made it easier than ever to reverse the signs of aging and restore your youthful appearance. And the best part? You don’t need surgery to get these extraordinary results.

For years, treatments like Botox® have dominated the industry for the ability to virtually erase wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines. But newer options like Dysport® are making waves, delivering even better results than their predecessors.

At Natura Dermatology & Cosmetics, our board-certified dermatologist, Will Richardson, MD, specializes in helping you look your best using only the safest and most advanced treatments available.

Introducing Dysport

Dysport’s popularity dates back to 2009, when the Food and Drug Administration first approved it. But over the years, it has risen through the ranks to give its beauty rival giant Botox a run for its money when it comes to eliminating stubborn lines and wrinkles on your face.

You may have heard that Dysport and Botox are the exact same treatments. Others may have told you they’re completely different. We’re here to clear up the confusion so you can have the best information available.

The similarities between Dysport and Botox

At their roots, Dysport and Botox are very similar. That’s because both treatments can significantly minimize any wrinkles or fine lines that crisscross your face.

Both Dysport and Botox also contain botulinum toxins, a neurotoxin that prohibits muscle contractions and reduces the appearance of wrinkles in your skin. Similarly, they’re both delivered as safe, quick injections with minimal side effects.

What sets these two treatments apart are the results you get.

How Dysport and Botox differ

You’ve probably heard the old adage that the proof is in the pudding. Personally, we think the proof is in your face.

Over 25 years of clinical experience, Dysport has proven to be longer-lasting and more effective than Botox. While neither of these treatments deliver permanent results, you can expect results from Dysport to last for around 3-4 months.

Plus, Dysport also acts much faster than Botox. In fact, you can usually see results within about 48 hours following a Dysport injection, while Botox can take days to start erasing your wrinkles.

If that’s not enough, Dysport can even save you money. On average, Dysport treatments cost less than Botox. Together, all of these benefits make Dysport a cost-effective alternative to traditional Botox.

Getting the best results with Dysport

If you’ve decided to try Dysport, it means you care a great deal about looking your best. It also means you want your results to last as long as possible and to get the most of every treatment.  As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Richardson is here to tell you how to do that.

Here are a few ways to maximize your Dysport treatment:

Watch your sun exposure

Protecting your skin from sun damage always makes good beauty sense, whether you’ve been treated with Dysport or not. But shortly after injections, your skin can be more delicate, so protecting it from harmful UV rays becomes even more important.

Avoid other facial products or treatments

Don’t worry. You don’t have to give up your facials or favorite cosmetics, at least not permanently. But Dysport takes some time to absorb into your skin and start working, so you should steer clear of them for at least one day.

During this time, stay away from makeup, facials, or other skin procedures while your treatment gets to work.

Skip the gym

Immediately following your Dysport treatment, we highly recommend avoiding a trip to the gym. Doing so can affect your results and Dysport’s ability to absorb into your skin.

You should also avoid other hot areas, like hot tubs or saunas. You’re welcome to resume your normal workout routine and get back in the hot tub the day after your treatment.
