Laser Treatments Q & A

How do laser, light, and radio frequency technologies work on skin?

Laser, light, and radio frequency technologies create heat energy that can be applied to the skin with precision. Ablative lasers go to work on the outer layers of the skin, removing old tissue and encouraging new, healthier skin cells to grow in its place. Non-ablative lasers apply heat to the layers beneath the skin’s surface, also encouraging fresh new growth.

How are lasers used to prevent unwanted hair growth?

Lasers can be targeted specifically at hair follicles, which prevents further hair growth from that follicle. Motif® Laser Hair Removal is an effective and safe treatment for excess hair growth on the face and body. Most patients will be able to permanently reduce unwanted hair on their upper lip, back, cheeks, chin, neck, breasts, arms, bikini area, and legs.

How is laser therapy used for vaginal rejuvenation?

Dr. Richardson also offers vaginal rejuvenation using the CO2RE® Intima Laser.  This special device can help improve symptoms related to loss of vaginal tone, a consequence of childbirth and aging. Symptoms include a loss of tissue elasticity in the vaginal wall; urine leaking when sneezing or coughing; pigment changes in the vulva; painful intercourse; and itching or burning in the genital area. Patients report that a series of CO2RE Intima treatments, taking 10-15 minutes each, give immediate relief to their symptoms and improve sexual satisfaction for both partners.

What is involved in a laser therapy session?

Laser, light, and radio frequency technologies are precision tools with the power to relieve a range of dermatological problems with minimal discomfort and downtime for the patient. Because of the risk of burns and other damage to the skin’s surface, it’s important for laser therapies to be conducted by properly qualified and trained dermatologists like Dr. Richardson.

Dr. Richardson is an expert in the latest technology. He begins by conducting a full physical assessment of each patient before planning a course of treatment, which may include laser therapies in conjunction with other procedures, such as a chemical peel.
