Silhouette Instalift at Natura Dermatology & Cosmetics

Silhouette Instalift is a rejuvenation procedure that tightens loose facial skin and restores lost volume to the cheeks. It’s the first FDA-approved procedure to use dissolvable threads to correct mild-to-moderate skin laxity in the middle and lower face.

How it works

Silhouette Instalift uses Micro-Suspension Technology, a dissolvable thread with biodegradable microcones interspersed with knots along its length.

When these threads are inserted into the cheeks, the microcones grip and lift the skin while stimulating ongoing tissue and volume restoration. These benefits continue until the sutures have dissolved 12–18 months later.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Silhouette Instalift?

Anyone who wishes to look younger without undergoing a traditional surgical facelift or dealing with frequent filler touch-ups may be a good candidate. Because no general anesthesia or incisions are required, a Silhouette Instalift may be an effective alternative for men and women who aren’t eligible for traditional cosmetic surgery.

What Can You Treat With a Silhouette Instalift?

Silhouette Instalift effectively treats mild-to-moderate signs of aging including:

  • Lines between the nose and mouth (bunny lines)
  • Loose skin in the mid and lower face
  • Sagging jowls
  • Vertical lines between the corners of the mouth and chin (marionette lines)

What to Expect During Your Silhouette Instalift Treatment

At your appointment, Dr. Richardson will cleanse your face and map out the ideal locations for thread entry and exit. Each thread requires one entry and two exit points. They are available in three sizes; Dr. Richardson will measure your face to determine which is best for you.

Next, he’ll numb your cheeks with a local anesthetic. Once it’s taken effect, he’ll insert the threads into your skin. While this step may cause mild discomfort, it is not painful. He will then smooth out and adjust the threads to ensure the lift is in place. Lastly, he will recleanse your face.

Your skin will immediately feel tighter and appear more lifted, and wrinkles and lines in the mid and lower face will be less visible. These results will continue to develop over the following months as your skin heals and produces more collagen.

Instalift recovery

Recovery from an Instalift is quick. Most of our patients experience 24–48 hours of mild soreness, swelling, redness and bruising. You may see puckering at the insertion points; this will disappear within a few days.

During the healing period, you’ll need to avoid certain things such as strenuous exercise, saunas, direct sunlight and touching your face with unwashed hands. Be sure to follow all other aftercare guidelines from Dr. Richardson.

Your Instalift results will last for 12–18 months, by which point the thread and cones will have completely dissolved and been absorbed by your body. You’ll then be eligible to undergo another Instalift, should you desire.

Silhouette Instalift FAQ

What are the threads made of?

Silhouette Instalift sutures are made of polyglycolide/l-lactide, a biocompatible and biodegradable copolymer found in many FDA-approved medical devices. The microcones are made of implant-grade bioabsorbable resin.

How do I prepare for a thread lift?

To reduce the severity of any side effects, stop taking aspirin or any blood-thinning medications 1 week before treatment, with your doctor’s permission. Do not drink alcohol the day before your thread lift, and don’t plan any other cosmetic procedures 3 weeks before or after your appointment.

Can I wear makeup after my appointment?

We recommend waiting at least 2 days before applying any makeup around the thread entry or exit points. Waiting will decrease your risk of infection.

How is a Silhouette Instalift different from a facelift?

While a thread lift can provide similar results to a facelift, the two procedures are very different. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Experience: While a traditional facelift requires general anesthesia, an Instalift uses local anesthetic and takes less than 1 hour to complete
  • Downtime: Instalift requires next to no downtime; you’ll be sore for just a few days. A facelift usually requires bandages, drains and at least 2 weeks of recovery, during which you’ll be unable to work.
  • Permanence: An Instalift is temporary and lasts for 12–18 months; a mini facelift (the most comparable surgery) can last for 10 years
  • Cost: Compared to a facelift, Instalift is significantly less expensive
